But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for His own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light. 1 Peter 2:9
The first LCMS Youth Gathering that I attended took place in 2007. That summer, the theme was “Chosen,” and we focused on 1 Peter 2:9.
It was a life-changing event that radically impacted the person I am today. In just three days, I met some of the most incredible people, heard phenomenal speakers, and was graciously reminded of the love of Jesus through fun, fellowship, and service.
I left the Gathering as a different person than who I was when I arrived.
It had changed me.
Maybe the same is true for you.
A few weeks after we returned from the LCMS Youth Gathering, school began. As the ordinary days started to fly by, the pressure of being accepted by my peers, the difficulty of school, and the exhaustion of life began to creep into my reality. I was getting lost in the busyness and taken over by the stresses of life. I was losing hope.
But I soon realized that I wasn’t losing hope, I was simply forgetting it. I had forgotten about the people I met, the speakers who spoke to my life, and the goodness that reminded me of God’s love. I had forgotten that I was chosen by God, that He called me out of the darkness and into light.
Today, I want you to remember the Gathering:
It is incredibly easy to forget the truth and get lost in the busyness of today. When life gets heavy, do not forget:
Prayer: Lord, I pray that Your truth may rest in my heart and move me to love. Give me the strength to make it through today. May I never forget Your love for me in Christ alone. Amen.
